"The Trinity Icon"
|
Frequently people
ask us to pray for their special needs. And we are happy to do so. In fact,
we write their names in our chapel "Book of Prayer" and pray for those
intentions at our morning and evening prayer and also at our community Mass.
If you have a
special intention you would like us to pray for please email us (PrayerIntentions@OpRaleigh.org) and
we will announce your prayer request at our community prayer and
write the names of those we have been asked to pray for in our "Book of
Prayer."
And please don’t
forget to pray for us!
Blessings,
The Dominican
Friars of Raleigh
The Trinity Icon
In our chapel there is a copy of this famous icon painted by the Russian
iconographer Andrei Rublev around 1410. Looking at the icon encourages a
meditative and peaceful disposition.
The Trinity icon depicts the three
angels who visited Abraham and Sarah at the Oak of Mamre. It is
rich in symbolism. There is food and drink placed on the table
reminiscent of our Eucharist. The three figures wear a blue
garment suggesting the heavens. Blue represents divinity; green speaks
of new life. The tree behind the central (Christ ?) figure portends the
cross, the "tree of life." Behind the figure on the left is a
house, perhaps suggesting the House or dwelling place of God.
But that is what some people see
in the icon. There is so much more. What do you see?
