HELP FIGHT HIV/AIDS
You can help provide a better life for those suffering from the scourge of AIDS by purchasing a beautiful beaded cross individually handcrafted by a group of Maasai women in Loitokitok, Kenya under the care of Dominican Sisters from the Philippines.

I am suggesting a minimum donation of $10 each which includes cost of postage and handling: When ordering, be sure to indicate your choice of the two different color designs.

Thank you for your compassionate concern for our suffering brothers and sisters in Africa. - fr. Bert

Objective

The overall objective of VICODEC is to build a stable society, committed to the restoration of Africa's traditional sense of community.  Consequently, VICODEC embraces the following core values:  interdependence, respect for the dignity of every human person, responsibility, accountability, care for the earth and gender equality.

Activities

  1. Education
The Center aims at providing basic education to poor children who cannot afford to attend expensive schools in the area.  After equipping the children with an intensive pre-school formation, they are enrolled in various neighboring public primary schools.

  2. Feeding Program
The Center runs a feeding program for less fortunate children.  This includes both those enrolled in VICODEC's pre-school program, as well as those needy children in the surrounding public primary schools.  The Center's shamba provides most of their diet's fresh fruits and vegetables.

  3. Community Outreach Programs
The Center, through the social workers' office, conducts outreach programs aimed at assisting both the social and spiritual development of the community through seminars and workshops in such areas as family life, nutrition and health care, entrepreneurship, and civic education.

  4. Collaboration
In an effort to serve the community adequately, the Center collaborates with other local and international organizations and institutions to more fully promote an effective way of creating community awareness.

  5. Training Programs
The Center offers courses in garment cutting and making, pattern drafting, textile science, fashion design and sketching, knitting and embroidery.  Training courses in weaving, spinning, culinary skills and various other courses are being planned for future development.

  6. Medical Services
A small clinic is dedicated to maintaining good health, both for pre-school children in our program, as well as for members of their extended families within the community.

  7. Study Resource Center
The Center is equipped with resource materials in various disciplines to assist community educators, secondary school and university students to broaden their education in fields of their respective interest.
